PBN Coatings and Shapes

High-performance, high-temperature & ultra-pure

Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (pBN), with a combination of high electrical resistance and thermal conductivity, is an excellent candidate to consider for applications where superior strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal shock resistance are required. Nonhazardous, nonporous and exceptionally pure, pBN can be applied as a coating on graphite or deposited and then easily machined into 2D or 3D shapes for use as crucibles, boats, plates, wafers, tubes and bottles. Known for its directional thermal conductivity and ability to provide optimal heat spreading, pBN demonstrates improved temperature stability up to 1700°C, is resistant to thermal shock and when coated on graphite can protect against corrosive atmospheres including most molten metals (Al, Ag, Cu, Ga, Ge, Sn, etc.), acids and hot ammonia environments.

Features and Benefits

  • Ultra-high purity and fully dense to deliver negligible outgassing and makes the pBN suitable for high-temperature UHV conditions
  • Chemically inert to most gases and molten metals to allow use of pBN in high temperature process without concern of contamination and structural integrity
  • One of the highest dielectric strengths known offers tremendous electric insulation for high-temperature applications
  • Good thermal conductivity and toughness allow for excellent thermal shock resistance
  • Balance of softness and toughness allows for machining of intricate features

Recognized as the global technology leader in engineered coating solutions, Momentive Technologies can provide our coating as a toll-coating or on a full-service basis as we have extensive graphite machining and measurement capability. Additionally, we have redundant production facilities in Japan and the USA, which provide our customers with the capacity to ramp with your markets, as well as a team of expert engineers to help you design the right solutions for you and your specific applications.
